Uganda: Bujagali Wins Award

Kampala — BUJAGALI hydropower project has been awarded the Africa Power Deal of the Year 2007 by the prestigious Euromoney Project Finance Magazine.

The project developer, Bujagali Energy Ltd (BEL), received the award at the ninth annual Euromoney project finance awards dinner in London last week.

BEL and IPS Kenya chairman, Nizar Juma, said the award was a great honour to the Government team that resiliently negotiated agreements that underpin the project. "It is an important tribute to the Sithe Global, IPS/AKFED and the Government of Uganda teams that negotiated the about 60 documents."

And agreements that underpin Bujagali, a project that portends great hopes for Uganda's economic and social development."
