Lagos — The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Monday in Lagos commissioned a three hundred million naira newly built ultra Modern Secretariat in Lagos .
A fellow of the Association, Mr. Okoya Thomas, who chaired the occasion, said that in years from now, a new Lagos will be born, adding that Lagos will be the most beautiful city in Africa when the Lagos Mega City project would be completed.
The three-storey ANAN Secretariat building, according to the President of ANAN Mr. Samuel O. Nzekwe was conveniently completed from internally generated revenue and sound financial management. He said that the new ANAN Secretariat would accord the Association a befitting corporate image and reposition it to face the challenges ahead. 'This Secretariat would comfortably accommodate the staff, library, the Council's chambers, committee room and a spacious parking space among others,' the ANAN President said. The Association, however requested that the Federal Government should assist in the construction of a permanent site of the ANAN Postgraduate College, the Nigerian College of Accountancy, in Jos, which is expected to gulp =N=5 billion.
ANAN further appealed to the President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua as an educationist to intervene by assisting the Nigerian College of Accountancy, Jos towards the advancement of the Accountancy profession in the country. Mr. Samuel Nzekwe disclosed that the College which is presently located at its temporary site in plot 42T, Bauchi Ring Road, Dogon Dutse, Jos Plateau State had grown too big in terms of intake of students.
He said that the College has specifically grown from 10 students in 1984 to 3,000 students in 2008. Those present during the commissioning ceremony include past presidents of the Association, two representatives of the Governor of Lagos State Raji Babatunde Fashola (SAN), traditional rulers as well as other dignitaries.
