The Second Verification Board of the National Assembly yesterday adopted reports on alternate of Hon. Christophe Eken.

Activities are moving at a fast pace since the beginning of the March 2008 ordinary session of the National Assembly on Thursday, 13 March. The opening plenary, coordinated by the provisional bureau, chaired by the Dean of the House, Hon. Joseph Mboui was closely followed the next day by the election of the entire permanent bureau for the 2008 legislative year. In the election, incumbent Hon .Cavaye Yeguie Djibril was voted back as the Speaker of the National Assembly. Indeed the bureau voted during the August 2007 provisional session of Parliament ushering the start of the eighth legislative period was maintained during last 14 March election.

Prior to the election of the bureau of the National Assembly on Friday, the members of the Second Verification Board of the House met and examined the file of André Parfait Djeume. He is the alternate of Hon. Christophe Eken, a Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) Member of Parliament from Upper Nkam constituency in the West Province. The Head of State on 25 January 2008, appointed Christophe Eken the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Handicrafts of Cameroon. This position is incompatible with that of Member of Parliament. Following the Standing Orders of the National Assembly, Mr Djeume, the alternate MP to Eken becomes eligible to taking over from Mr Eken as one of the three MPs from Upper Nkam constituency.

The Second Verification Board of the National Assembly with Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril as chairperson, examined Djeume's file on Friday. Yesterday afternoon, members of the Board adopted the reports of their deliberations. It is expected that among other issues, the entire House during tomorrow's plenary sitting at 4:00 pm will consider the report of the Second Verification Board in view of validating the mandate of Mr Djeume.

The election of the permanent bureau of the House gives the green light for examination of bills and other issues whenever they come up. Considering that the plenary sitting scheduled for 20 March is the first after the putting in place of the bureau, MPs told Cameroon Tribune that they expect government bills to start coming in.
