Monrovia — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested and charged two students of the University of Liberia with fraud and theft of property.

Students Dawolo A. Farkollie and Wahi Barnabas were arraigned at the Monrovia Magisterial Court, Temple of Justice Monday based on a complaint filed by the University's President Al-Hassan Conteh.

According to court's records, the two students were first arrested by the University Police Department (ULPD) for their alleged involvement in the deposit of fake bank slips at the First International Bank (FIB).

In the complaint, it was stated that defendant Farkollie who is believed to be a ring-leader of a group of alleged fraudsters and co-defendant Wahi Barnabas have been using fake deposit slips to collect tuition and fees from UL students outside of the UL Legal Business and Finance office.

"Defendants Farkollie and Barnabas fraudulently used the institution's FIB student's tuition and fees payment account #00101100020901 to produce several fake deposit slips for some students," the complaint indicated.

According to Court's record, during police investigation, defendant Farkollie and co-defendant Barnabas admitted to their involvement in the crime.

In the detail of the offense, co-defendant Barnabas explained that he processed his registration payment through defendant Farkollie.

He averred that his comrade (defendant Farkollie) requested for his control sheet which he delivered to him with the amount of LD$1,000.

"Consequently, Farkollie gave him (Barnabas) FIB deposit slip marked #118320, reflecting an amount of LD$2,045.00 in his (Barnabas) favor which he submitted for registration, thereby prompting his arrest later by the UL police for submitting fictitious bank slip for registration," the record stated.
