The Aminata Gas Station on Carey and Lynch Streets in central Monrovia was yesterday ruined by fire due to a reported overheating of one of its pump engines.

The fire outbreak which began at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon left a pair of the pump and portion of the station completely devastated.

Although the management not could readily state the actual cost of the damage sustained, but bystanders are convinced that the losses are substantial.

According to an operator of the gas station, Sasay Mohammed, the fire was caused by an excessive heating of one of the pump's motors which gasoline mistaken spilled on while pumping gasoline into a vehicle.

"I noticed that the pump's motor was hot while I was pumping gas into a vehicle and unknowingly to me the gas went into the engine; when this happened, I saw the fire from the engine and began to call for help," he lamented.

He said while in the process of quenching the fire, the inspectors from the National Fire Service immediately arrived on the scene with extinguishers which they used to quench the fire.
