Nairobi — Another group of suspected Mt Elgon militia has been charged.
The 85 Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF) suspects were on Wednesday accused in a Sirisia court of promoting war-like activities between July, 2006 and March 3.
They were denied bond, and remanded in police custody until April 7.
On Tuesday, 152 suspected militia were also charged with the same offence in the same court and remanded at the Bungoma Prison until April 7 when the case will be mentioned.
In both cases, heavily armed security personnel cordoned off the courtroom. They briefly held two Standard Group journalists and only allowed them entry after the intervention of a senior police officer.
Isaac Wale, a photographer with The Standard, said: "We were taken by armed officers to a senior officer who appeared to be in charge of security within the law court grounds. After we identified ourselves, the officer told his juniors to allow us to work."
Wale had been held with Mr Charles Wekesa of KTN.
On Tuesday, lawyers representing some of the suspects were denied entry into court despite pleas from the Law Society of Kenya Western Kenya Chairman, Mr Laban Akula Anzia.
