Stocky traditional music star, Ditiro Leero is about to put his music on DVD as he attempts to reach a much bigger audience after getting airplay on radio.
More interesting is the fact that he is not interested in using celebrities in his DVD. He has chosen to feature his unknown former school mates, who danced with him as a youngster before he ventured into music as a professional.
"I am preparing for the shooting and I am happy that things are going according to plan. This month on the 22nd, I will meet my friends from as far back as primary school and try to audition them to see who I can feature in the DVD. I have already talked to them and all of them are excited," Leero said.
He told Showbiz that he would like his DVD to show 'real things' instead of changing scenes to suit the film. "For me it is important that if you talk about a certain place in your song, then you shoot a video in that location even if it is costly. That way it gives the viewers and listeners a close connection to what is being portrayed in the song," he said.
"We have to use our music to promote tourism in this country and for one to sing about the beauty of Kasane and shoot a video in Kanye does not make sense because when tourists come here, they expect to find what they saw in the video," he said.
Leero has worked with various groups such as Machesa and Mokorwana. He broke away from Matsieng last year after they released their hot selling album 'Tinto'.
Shortly after going solo, he released his own album 'Molemo wa kgang'. The short musician from Selokolela is not just good at singing. His acting skills have given his past group videos real meaning.
He was most impressive in Matsieng's 'Thulamela' where he played an abused young boy disinherited by his uncles and left to starve. Later the boy develops a rebellious attitude and starts challenging his relatives.
But to repeat such a brilliant performance, Leero will need a producer in the mould of his former boss Eric Ramogobya to direct the filming properly so as to end up with a fine product attractive to the competitive world of music.
"I have linked up with the right people and I have the experience to even direct some of the scenes. When it finally comes out, people will see a different traditional music video. It will be strictly Setswana attire, no fancy clothing in the sets," he said.
Most of Leero's songs talk about the things in the Ngwaketse region. He is adamant that the DVD will portray things in the region. "I will shoot in Kanye, Mmathethe, Selokolela and Sesung, names which appear regularly in my tracks. There are also good locations that can produce good scenes there," he said.

It will be interesting to see who acts the part of Kgosi Lepenyola in the video because the song of the same name has created a big interest from fans and competitors alike. Maybe it will be suitable for Gong Master who is billed to feature in the DVD.
