Botswana: Ministers to Attend Development Conventions

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Neo Moroka, will attend the 4th Conclave of India-Africa Project Partnership 2008 in New Delhi, India, which starts today and ends on March 21, 2008.

According to a statement from Permanent Secretary, Banny Molosiwa, the objectives of the Conclave include local value addition to the abundant natural resources and the need to make available goods and services at affordable prices, particularly for semi-urban populations.

"Other objectives of the conclave include (the) augmentation of local production to meet the demands of the growing middle class consumer market and reduce the dependence on imports and the need to generate employment through replication of the Indian model in agricultural and SME sectors," says the statement.

The Conclave is also expected to, among other things, increase outreach of information on Indian enterprise in Africa, increase interaction between Indian industries and the African countries where opportunities exist. The meeting will also discuss opportunities for Indian participation in African business projects.

In the meantime, the Assistant Minister, Lebonaamang Mokalake, is also scheduled to attend the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) Ministerial Preparatory Conference from March 19 to 22, in Libreville. Gabon.

The conference, whose objective is to prepare for the Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for May 28 to 30, 2008 in Yokohama, Japan, will focus on four priority areas, namely, Boosting Economic Growth, Achieving UN Millennium Development Goals, Consolidating Peace and Security and Addressing Environmental Issues or Climate Change.

Both Ministers are expected back on March 23, 2008.
