Harare

I went to Mozambique to do my Christmas shopping in December 2007. As I was coming back while in Mutare I decided to forward 3 x 25kg of rice to Harare through NRZ.

On December 21 2007, I paid for express services -- which is overnight -- and I was supposed to receive my goods the following morning.

I travelled aboard the same train which was pulling a wagon carrying our luggage. When we arrived at Harare station the following morning I was among several passengers queueing to collect their goods.

I got the shock of my life when I was told that there was only 1 x 25kg of rice for me as the other two bags had not been loaded.

I was told to come and check after two days and when I went there on December 24 I was told there was no sign of my missing bags of rice.

I was again told to come and check after New Year. I duly went back on January 4, 2008 only to draw another blank.

This time there were 12 of us seeking to recover our missing goods.

According to some of the customers they had been trying in vain to locate their goods since September 2007. These included bags of maize, foodstuffs and valuable assets. One begins to wonders if NRZ customers still have faith in the rail transporter in light of this kind of service.

There is something fishy going on at NRZ. Can the authorities please investigate these cases and put a stop to it once and for all.
