Gambia: CMC Dibba Testifies in William Joof's Case

Serrekunda — The police crime management coordinator, Commissioner Burama Dibba, has on Tuesday, 18 March, testified in the criminal trial involving the state and Mr. William John Joof, the former Gambian Ambassador to France. The case was before Magistrate Olajubutu Kayode of the Banjul Magistrates Court.

CMC Dibba said he knew the accused person, Mr. William J. Joof; that he led the investigation into the matter pertaining to the case. CMC Dibba stated that some time in August 2007, the police received a petition from Gerrard Nuss, a French National, through Foreign Affairs, for an investigation into the case. CMC Dibba indicated that in the petition Garrard Nuss complained that before he was appointed as a Gambian honorary councilor in Paris, he has asked the accused person to pay 15,000 Euros, plus 160,000 French Franc. Dibba noted that Mr. Nuss also complained that the accused person had opened a bank account in the name of The Gambia delegation to UNESCO.

CMC Dibba added that Mr. Nuss also complained that the accused person has acquired a Peugeot 607 car in the name of the UNESCO delegation. CMC Dibba asserted that Mr. Nuss's complaints also indicated that the accused person has terminated the services of Michael Coancas and Michael Attias, without proper authority.

It could be recalled that Mr. William John Joof, a former Gambian ambassador to France was standing trial for eleven different charges, which includes official misconduct, abuse of office and corruption.

Case continuous today.
