Lagos — The National Executive Council of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), yesterday signified intention to embark on a nationwide strike from Monday.
Rising from its emergency meeting held at the Mirage Hotel, Calabar, Cross River State, the association resolved that in the event that the meeting with the Presidency on Mobil Oil matter is unable to broker a resolution acceptable to it, the union will have no alternative but to commence its planned strike from Monday.
PENGASSAN in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting signed by its President General, Comrade Peter Esele, and the General Secretary, Comrade Bayo Olowoshile respectively stated that the Central Working Committee [CWC], has been mandated by the NEC-in-Session to take every step it deemed appropriate to prosecute a nationwide industrial action after the festive period of Id-el Malud and Easter holiday.
The communiqué stated that the decision was taken after its NEC in- Session exhaustively deliberated the labour management relations situation in Mobil Oil Plc, among other issues of concern to the association.
While welcoming the Federal Government's intervention in the matter, the communiqué' said, "that the top level meeting at the instance of the Presidency to intervene and proffer acceptable resolution of the matter is a welcome development and should be embraced".
