Liberia: Unmil, Police Raid Monrovia Ghetto

The Liberia National Police (LNP) along with UNMIL Soldiers has once again raided a notorious ghetto area popularly known as "GBLAGBA" on Center Street. Yesterday's morning raid on the hardened criminals who had perpetually used the area as a 'sacred hide-out' came as though the place were desecrated by security authorities.

A police officer who is in charge of the area, Daniel N. Gueh, told The Inquirer that the criminals, ranging from drug addicts, prostitutes, gamblers, pick-pockets, and cell phone snatchers had inhabited the place for over five years.

This latest demolition exercise carried out at Gblagba has left neighbors with mixed feelings, for fear of being attacked by the ferocious criminals who had threatened them on countless occasions before.

A concerned resident of Center Street, Ma Mary Fredrick who had lived in the area for over 35years said, "We scarcely sleep at night. We, the residents are always afraid of the criminals for fear that they will come and harass us. The police are aware of what is happening in the area."

Ma Mary stated further that yesterday's raid was not any strange scenario because whenever such raids were carried out and culprits arrested, they were seen the next day on the streets of Monrovia to the amazement of residents.

Other concerned residents alleged that the proliferation of dangerous drugs in "Gblagba Kingdom" has been through the clever machination of one Izetta George believed to be a girlfriend of S. Marcus Davis, popularly known as "Sundaygar Dearboy". However, all efforts to contact Sundaygar Dearboy to confirm or deny his alleged contact with a purported girlfriend who is a leading drug pusher in Gblagba proved futile.

Meanwhile, residents are calling on the Government to increase security patrol in their area so as to prevent these desperate criminals from attacking their homes and business places.
