Cameroon: Stupid Rich Woman

Tche Irene Morikang

20 March 2008

It's funny the way some people can easily be duped. Yesterday in Yaounde, a lady was robbed of FCFA three million when she sought to have the money doubled.

The story is pathetic, but at the same time brings out the idiocy and greed of the woman. As she narrated her ordeal to who ever cared to listen, many onlookers left the scene with the impression that she either has the brain of a grasshopper, is completely cut off from societal realities or was hypnotised!

For, how can a lady, with all her senses intact, still believe in people (wretched people) who say they can double her money? How could she open up to strangers (she met the 'dealers' just a few hours before the incident) so easily? How could she go to the bank and withdraw all her savings and wilfully hand it to crooks?

One thing is certain. Those who still fall prey to money doublers have themselves to blame! They don't deserve our sympathy. Why in the first place did they want to make money fraudulently? Greed! Inordinate greed! Serves them right!

Irene, How can you write such a story? Please, in such matters, warn other people to be careful and not insult the poor victim. Your article emboldens these crooks who are smart at getting their victims into a corner with no other choice. Clearly, you seem to be on the side of the crooks.

The police too should be on the alert.
