The Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, has solicited the Douala community to rescue the blood bank of the Laquintinie hospital which is practically empty and donate blood. He was speaking during a working visit, to evaluate the capacity of hospitals to intervene and handle emergency situations in the Littoral Province.
Minister Mama Fouda visiting the Laquintinie hospital, Douala he was scandalised to realise that the blood bank was empty. He said that the situation is an emergency. He called on the media present to inform the community at large to save the situation of the hospital. Being one of the largest hospitals in Douala and which handled about 42 victims during the four day strike which was so fierce in Douala, the blood in the bank was used on victims who suffered some serious casualties.

He also asked the authorities to forward the lists of their contract staff so that they could be recruited officially. The Minister saluted the Order of Malte to Cameroon which relationship the Cameroon has benefited a lot in the fight against HIV/AIDS, fight against Cancer in children, etc. The Minister lauded the efforts of the hospital in their handling of emergencies, especially the October, 2007 accident along the Njombe- Penja high way which claimed 28 lives, and other epidemic cases like cholera outbreak. The Minister's visit tied with the events of the Surgical Day. He underscored the need for an emergency fund to be created to handle emergency cases, just as the Director of the hospital Colonel Hans Gilbert, requested in his speech from government. He gave some gifts to the hospital as a token of appreciation. He visited the various services and the victims of the strike who were still undergoing treatment.
