Nigeria: 894 Robbery Suspects in Police Net

About 894 armed robbery suspects have been nabbed by the Lagos State police command, last month.

Former commissioner of police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar told leadership that 779 suspects have so far been prosecuted at various courts in the metropolis.

The police boss promised to rid the state of criminals, adding that eight robbery suspects lost their lives in an exchange of fire.

Abubakar, who disclosed that incidence of bank robbery has reduced in the state, commended men and officers of the command for implementing his ideas for a crime free state.

Abubakar said that the "war on criminality in the state continues and men of the command have been groomed to be polite, courteous and professional in way of approach to members of the public in the process of stop and search as well as raids.

He explained that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) through intelligent gathering burst a syndicate that speacialised in snatching exotic cars in the state.

The police alleged that one of the suspects confessed that he sold the cars to buyers at Benue, Taraba and Cross River States, adding that some of the stolen cars have been recovered.

He gave the description of the cars as four Honda salon cars, one Toyota Previa bus, one Toyota Corolla and one Rav 4 jeep, others include Mitsubishi pick up jeep, one Peugeot 406, one Nissan Senator and Toyota Camry saloon car.

According to him, another group of robbery suspects, who allegedly, terrorised residents of the state were nabbed by men of Special Anti Robbery Squads (SARS).
