Afabet

The 20th anniversary of the demise of the Derge regime's entrenched Nadew Command that led to the liberation of Afabet town was marked yesterday in a patriotic spirit.

Speaking at the gathering in Afabet in which different heads, veteran fighters and residents of the town took part, the Administrator of Afabet, Mr. Mohammed Adem Shagrai, outlined the heroic feats demonstrated by the EPLF freedom fighters in wiping out the enemy force, thus registering impressive strategic victory. He further stated that the Day reminds us all to renew our pledge in honoring the trust of martyrs and safeguard the nation's sovereignty.

A representative of Afabet residents, Mr. Idris Mohamed Nur, pointed out on his part that the demise of the Nadew Command constituted a turning point in the Eritrean people's struggle for independence. He further commended the Government's endeavors to achieve food security and promote social service in all parts of the country.

Different sports competitions and cultural shows were staged on the occasion.
