DEFENDING champion, Hassan Mulambe will this time have to contend with new opposition in Mauritanian Aly Kreikad at the International Open Chess Championship at Lugogo over the Easter weekend.

According to Uganda Chess Federation publicist Vianney Luggya, the Mauritanian is already in town but details of his rating were still scanty.

Regular campaigners Ben Magana, Ben Nguku, Nathan Ateka, Isaac Babu and Joseph Chepkgur are the big names in the eight-man Kenyan contingent.

Olympiad-bound Bob Bibasa, national champion Shadrack Kantinti, Harold Wanyama and Grace Nsubuga are also expected to battle for a slice of awards at stake.
