The month of March is an auspicious time of the year for Eritreans as it was during this month that the town of Afabet was liberated following the demise of the Derg regime's entrenched Nadew Front. Further more, the liberation of the town of Nakfa in 1977 and the destruction of massive TPLF forces at Egri Mekhel in 1999 also took place in March.
The uniqueness of Eritrean history lies in the fact that the Eritrean people have been able to triumph over successive colonialists backed by world powers and secure sovereignty without any external assistance. This exceptional history of struggle proves the important truth that power ideology and sophisticated armaments cannot destroy and suppress a just cause as long as there are committed people and experienced leadership behind it. Moreover, the various military victories in the month of March reveal the fact that the human role is far more important and decisive than material power. The Eritrean people had been denied the right to self-determination because it did not suit the geopolitical interest of certain powers. To this end, the international community, in general, and the world powers, in particular, turned a deaf ear to the Eritrean people's just cause and sanctioned Ethiopian colonization of Eritrea. However, the truth did not stay buried for long; the Eritrean people staunchly fought against all odds and secured their legitimate right.
This time too, the international community is once again committing injustice against the Eritrean people. Instead of calling for the implementation of the Algiers Agreement, the international community continues to circle around trivial issues and thus reveal their double standards and misguided assumptions on top of undermining international laws and principles. Nonetheless, the Eritrean people will as always continue to resolutely pursue the legal route towards justice. The message the month of March conveys will forever be an undeniable fact that the silence and negligence of the international community cannot bury the voice of justice for long!
