Two prominent music producers and multi-instrumentalists are among several judges chosen to screen possible finalists in this year's edition of Star Quest, the popular music talent hunt show sponsored by Star lager beer.

The duo would join HipHopWorld award best 2007 Rap artiste Ruggedman, Nigeria's hottest female musician, Weird MC and premier winners of Star Quest KC Presh to select 36 budding musicians that would make Star Fameland beginning across six regions on Saturday March 22. Over 12,000 applications were received as entry closed last Monday and 4,300 have been pre-selected to participate at the regional screenings in Jos, Abuja, Owerri, Benin, Lagos and Enugu.

36 finalists are expected to emerge from these regional screenings to begin their quest at Star Fame land. The show is already generating a lot of excitement as it enters the crucial stages of selection of possible band members. Sampson Oloche, Senior Brand Manager, Star, the building momentum means Nigerians are favourably disposed to the programme which is in its fourth season. As usual, the contestants will form bands on their own from their interaction with each other. Six bands will emerge from this process with each band made up of individuals with different musical skills. These six bands are expected to create and produce their own original music on which basis they will be evaluated by the viewing public.

The six bands will contest against one another and 3 bands will be eliminated in the first elimination round. This will be fully broadcast on national television and elimination will be decided by public voting via SMS. The 3 remaining bands will move on to the national final. The final event will be broadcast live on NTA and AIT networks on Saturday, 10th May, 2008. The winning band will again be decided 100% by live public voting via SMS.

The winning band this year would go home with a N5million naira recording contract, N2.1 million naira, a mini van and one year guaranteed accommodation in Lagos. In addition, the winning band will also participate in the upcoming 2008 Star Trek and the Star Mega Jam as performing artistes.
