Ibadan — In their resolve to resuscitate the dying Yoruba cultural heritage, some notable Yoruba indigenes, in conjunction with the Odu'a Investment Company Limited, have shown their readiness to sponsor the production of CD albums containing folksongs, folktales and poems for the education and entertainment of Yoruba in Nigeria and beyond.

The group under the aegis of Yoruba Centre of Excellence is led by Emeritus Professor J.F Ade Ajayi, Ambassador Segun Olusola, Emeritus Professor Akinwumi Ishola, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa and Chief Yemi Elebuibon. This was disclosed by the media relations manager of the company, Mr. Victor Ayetoro, in Ibadan yesterday. The media manager added that the aim of the company is bridge the gap between cultural deficiencies of Yoruba children and their traditional environment and at the same time build access into the realm of Yoruba rich philosophical module for their day to day use.

Ayetoro said: "it is a collection of specially researched and composed songs, poems and traditional philosophical statements, put into music for Odu'a children." The conglomerate would use the occasion of the launch to present award of excellence to two prominent Nigerian citizens, Dr Lamidi Fakeye, a traditional sculptor and Mr. Ogundare Foyanmu, a traditional musician who recently got the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) award of the human treasures project.

According to the image maker of the company, the two events were very significant because of the love of the conglomerate at promoting Yoruba culture and value system and also recognizing the work of the renowned sculpture, Dr. Fakeye, and the great musician of oral traditions and expression, Mr. Foyanmu.
