Uganda: Isn't Circumcision Barbaric?

23 March 2008

column

I am not talking female editing just in case you are wondering, I am talking about the vice called circumcision of men. Yes, that arrangement Kagame has made law in his country and mbu called ABC strategy (Abstain, Be faithful or Circumcise!)

Seriously I find circumcision disgusting, when will they ever stop it? I have kept quiet all this time, but today I have to let this out. I am a victim of this evil but I swear the day I meet that doctor who played around with my gu-digi, I will kill him. Can you imagine, by the time I left his medical centre my centre-spread had been reduced to a quarter page!

When God created the second most ballistic son of Nebbi, he created him intact, now what am I going to tell him when (not if) I go to heaven? That some medic was paid to remain with certain parts of his creation?

The other day I visited some friend who'd had a baby boy and I watched in horror as they pinned down the little thing and edited his idea of a thingy. What pained me most is the way this baby screamed, I swear that sound would have measured a neat three on the Richter scale! (hey, the Richter has nothing to do with sound, but you get the point).

I asked three of my friends whether circumcision has any benefits to life and hygiene and 98 percent agreed with me that it's barbaric (thank God we did not take a leak together, they would have beaten me up!)

Anyway, when I grow up and have a son, I will take him for circumcision, not because I all of a sudden like the idea of instilling pain to my baby but because I am an advocate of the notion 'Like father, Like son'.

What do you explain to your son in the event that he has followed you to the choo and seen it? Do you tell him that your thing looks different from his because you were swimming naked in a village pond and a sadistic Nile Perch missed you by inches?

Come to think of it, who brought the notion that we should be edited? I mean I braved two weeks living like a wretched transvestite since I had been subjected to editing of the thingy. Well, my son will have to go through this so that when he sees it on that day when he strays into the bathroom, I don't have to explain anything.

I just tell him "That's how we be." Hey, to all the chics who are getting ideas, I am lying about this and I don't mean lying down, I mean okulimba, so don't even think about it.

Whether you're serious about it or not, cutting off part of a baby's genitals is still wrong.

If it was wrong for someone to do it to you, then it's wrong for you to have it done to your son.

ABC stands for Abstinence, Being Faithful, and Condoms btw.

Condoms really are an effective strategy against HIV, unlike circumcision.

And this rose to the surface with all that to choose from?

Of course cutting parts off healthy babies is barbaric. Over 90% of the non-Muslim world does not circumcise and they're doing fine.

And if you think circumcision prevents AIDS, you have been fooled. In the US most of the dead men victimzed by AIDS were circumcised at birth.

I agree, circumcision is barbaric, and if I find that barbaric doctor who did that I'll kill him too, slowly, by cutting off parts of him till he bleeds to death.

I don't understand the "like father like son" part though, I have 3 sons, all intact (uncircumcised). Any doctor who tried to come near their genitals with a sharp object would have felt my wrath.

Had the doctors have cut of a different part of the writers body would he have had them do the same to his sons? When will it stop? How about with you in your… [Read Full Text]

When the matter of male circumcision for HIV is raised anywhere on the net the first responses will be from a gay dominated group of anti-circumcision activists. Already they have posted a response here. WHO and UNAIDS in a joint statement found: "The research evidence that male circumcision is efficacious in reducing sexual transmission of HIV from women to men is compelling. The partial protective effect of male circumcision is remarkably consistent across the observational studies (ecological, cross-sectional and cohort) and the three randomized controlled trials conducted in diverse settings. The three randomised controlled trials showed that male circumcision performed… [Read Full Text]
