The Zimbabwe Chevrons cricket team are scheduled to leave for South Africa this morning to play their first batch of matches in

They will play the Chevrolet Warriors at the Sahara Park Saint George's in Port Elizabeth tomorrow, the Gestetner Diamond Eagles at the Outsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, the Bizhub Highveld Lions at the Liberty Life Wanderers in Johannesburg on Thursday and then the Nashua Dolphins at the Sahara Kingsmead in Durban on Wednesday next week.

The Chevrons squad comprises captain Prosper Utseya, Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Elton Chigumbura, Regis Chakabva, Keith Dabengwa, Timycen Maruma, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tawanda Mupariwa, Taurayi Muzarabani, Raymond Price, Tatenda Taibu and Brendan Taylor.

Zimbabwe Cricket spokesperson, Lovemore Banda, revealed that three senior players, who would have been considered for the squad -- Vusimuzi Sibanda, Gary Brent, and Sean Williams -- were not available for selection.

"Vusimuzi Sibanda is down with a recurrent inflammation of his left hip. "He is undergoing rehabilitation that includes three weeks of gentle fitness training with no sprinting, jumping or heavy leg gym-work, so that the symptoms can settle. After that he will be exposed to an exercise challenge to assess his progress," Banda said. Brent sustained a multiple compacted fracture of the base of his right little finger as he took a catch in the MTN Domestic Challenge match against the Gestetner Diamond Eagles at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo a fortnight ago.

He may not be available for selection for another two weeks. Williams has been out with a swollen and painful right ankle. He is now off crutches, can move the joint more freely but is still tender over the ligaments. "He is continuing with physiotherapy on a daily basis in Bulawayo and is expected to return to full weight bearing training and running in the next two weeks or so," Banda said.

Banda also pointed out that assistant coach Walter Chawaguta will not be travelling to South Africa as he is set to go to Australia on a ZC staff development programme.

"Otherwise the rest of the team travels with Robin Brown the coach, Givemore Makoni team manager, Anesu Kafesu match analyst, Lorraine Chivandire fitness trainer and Amato Machikicho the physiotherapist."
