Borno State Government is tackling the menace of perennial flooding frontally with the award of three road projects, covering a distance of 11 kilometres.

The roads, which contract is worth N2 billion, according to the Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Mustapha Alkali Gajibo, are going to be constructed with drainage facilities.

He said at the contract signing ceremony that the roads are Maiduguri Circular road, Idris Alooma and Gambole roads covering a total of about 11 kilometres with 22 kilometres of drainage facilities.

The commissioner explained that on completion of the roads they will tackle the problems of flooding associated with their poor state as well as the traffic congestions in the metropolis and free flow of traffic, pedestrians and livestock would be achieved.

He said because of the increasing traffic, the roads are going to be dualised and would be linked to the Damboa, Polo and Lagos Bridge Roads.

Gajibo promised that all the three roads will be completed within 10 months by Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC) so as to prevent the over-labour of other roads in Maiduguri metropolis.

The commissioner also warned against complacency, stressing that the supervising ministry would closely monitor the projects and ensure that all the terms of contracts are adhered strictly to.

Responding, Chairman of EEC, Mr. Zhaoji Sheng Shen, promised to complete work on the roads on time and said: "We will not breach any of the terms of contract as agreed between the state government and EEC."
