Nairobi

In seven days, Kenyan athletes will participate in the World Cross Country championships in Edinburgh, scotland.

The team has had rigorous training at Kigari in Embu to prepare for the races a year after Kenya hosted the event in Mombasa.

We take this opportunity to wish the athletes a good run when they eventually take to the track.

Kenya has been dominant in the cross-country race and has won the team event over the years, but the last decade has seen the country's prowess, especially in the senior men and women categories, slip.

Ethiopia and Eritrea have been dictating the race at Kenya's expense.

It is time Kenya regained its title which always seemed to be ours when the likes of John Ngugi and Paul Tergat dominated cross country. Now the two are retired and it has been hard getting a replacement.

Our athletes have been advised to go out there and work as a team to win medals for Kenya. We are also echoing the advice from experienced athletes and coaches that it is only through a united assault that Kenya can overcome the opposition from Ethiopians and Eritreans.

The whole country is waiting with bated breath to see how the team will perform. There is enough time to lay down the strategies that will allow them to win back the title.
