THE recent Afro-Arab youth conference and the four-day state visit by Libyan leader, Col. Muammar Gaddafi, and 10 other heads of state, overwhelmed local tour and travel operators.
The business was evenly spread out among the major tour companies, the operators said. They added that this was unlike the November Commonwealth summit when over 53 heads of state visited Uganda for over a week.
Hajji Ahmed Kiwanuka of Concord Express Travel Ltd, which does local flight charters, car hire and shuttle services said the operators did brisk business right from hotel bookings, airport transfers and transportation.
"The youth conference and ensuing visit of Col. Gaddafi was a success. All major hotels are fully-booked, fleets taken up, and it has been good business for everybody," Kiwanuka said.
He said Concord, with a parent company in Kenya, would soon import more 40 shuttles from Germany to cater for the country's potential in tourism. The shuttles would be driven by women.
