Gambia: Dida Halaki, BT Trawally And Others Coup Against The GPU Exposed

opinion

Dida Halake Buries His head, B Trawally rolls cries of disappointment as the Gambia Press Union says No to the Cronies and decides to go ahead with momentum and not succumbed to Jammeh's Gamsu like tricks.

It started as a call for survival and redemption from members who were never heard before; who don't know what is in the GPU constitution, who never paid dues before and clearly members who heard ulterior motives. When I heard of the unnecessary rants from photographer Trawally coupled with the mysterious registration of join the lists at the Daily observer as members of the Gambia Press Union, every sane person knows that; they were up to something. How on earth that the Daily Observer who claims to be the largest Daily in the Country, claims to be highly sophisticated, claims to be the only viable daily tabloid in the Gambia and above all the highest paid salaried staff in the print Media in the Gambia can be so proactive in the eleventh hour.

The tabloid that refused to participate in GPU activities like the Deyda memorials, never complained on the protracted disappearance of there very own Chief Ebrima Manneh ,and the very Daily Observer whose editorials almost always goes against the activities of the Gambian Press Union.

The motive was loud and clear. Dida Halake was hired by Jammeh to infiltrate the Gambia Press Union executive with market reporters at the Daily Observer. These join the lists would then hijack the independence of the union and place it in the hands of the Governement. They would dance to the tune of the government, would not fiercely guard journalist rights and like NAPSA would be a propaganda piece, which the government would use to wipe its dirty linen. The ploy Failed and it failed miserably.

It turns out that the media propaganda gathers fruit; with Dida Halake disassociating himself away from the Union .Listen to what he told the Point "GPU has got a membership and I as a foreigner am not entitled to be a member. I have nothing absolutely to do with the GPU. I have no agenda for the GPU. If they want to be with the government, it's left to them. If they want to be anti-development it is their problem but if they also want to be with the Americans, it is their business'.

Indeed this was a direct response to my earlier piece on this disgraced mercenary. Indeed you have an agenda but mind you they want to be for press freedom which is an integral part of any meaningful democracy and not with the Americans.

It is pertinent to note that, the person who best buys pressure groups is the Libyan trained Baba Jobe.Mr. Jobe who is an expert in Jamahariyaanism, the type of Government in Libya sponsors Gamsu on a countrywide tour, Annual Congress and with sweet trips to Kanilai etc.It is with this sugar coating that he succeeded in infiltrating the Union by planting student NIAS, then Head Boys and Girls that finally culminated into NAPSA; that unleash Gamsu's last straw of survival. Now he is incarcerated Jammeh is looking for a disciple. Dida is a broke non influential Manager that cannot buy one person much more; The Gambia Press Union.

I congratulate Gambian Journalists for standing strong for their union and refusing to be bought by demons like Dida Halake and his disciples; the join the lists from the Daily Observer Newspaper. It is a real victory for Press Freedom. Indeed the Ndey Tapha Led government should monitor their responses to the union and my former Information Secretary of Gamsu, Treasurer Faal should make sure they pay there dues and in time; if not come 2011,when hopefully I would be back home and offer free legal representation to the GPU;they should be disenfranchised.

Long Live legitimate journalism and Long live the Gambian Press Union.
