Charles Boniface Mkwasa has been named new coach for Zanzibar champions, Miembeni, to replace Suleiman Mohammed Jabir who has stepped down.

Miembeni's director Amani Makungu has confirmed Mkwasa's appointment. Mkwasa's had coached Tanzania's women soccer team, Twiga Stars.

Makungu said the new coach has accepted the appointment and would take over his new assignment any time from now. The Zantel Premiership is expected to resume this week after Easter festivities.

The Miembeni direcor said the new coach would be under probation for three month before he signs a long term contract with the Isles' champions.

While with the team, Mkwasa would be provided with accommodation, a car, medical facilities and other fringe benefits.

" We expect the coach to arrive on Monday ( today), but the major part of the contractual agreement has been successfully concluded," said Makungu.

Former Miembeni coach Jabir resigned on grounds of allegedly leadership interventions in key technical matters.

He has crossed over to another Zanzibar top flight team, Malindi Sports Club.

Malindi's chairman Jaffar Hussein said Jabir has signed a three-year contract with the team.

Jabir has been quoted as saying he felt honoured to join Malindi team, adding that Malindi would make good progress in the ongoing league.

"Leaving one club and joining another is not strange in modern football," Jabir said in an interview.

He had inspired Miembeni to become Zanzibar champions, but the team was eliminated in the Africa champions league opening round by South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns on 4-1 goals aggregate last month.
