Benguela

At least 228 people died of tuberculosis in the central Benguela province, out of the 10,218 cases recorded last year, ANGOP learnt.

This figure was presented by the provincial co-ordinator of the programme for the fight against tuberculosis, Manuel Jacob, who pointed out the excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks as main causes.

Without mentioning the figures for the year 2006, that source added that the region has medicines to treat patients and the treatment is free of charge at every region.

Manuel Jacob informed about the fact whilst speaking in an activity to commemorate the World Tuberculosis Day, March 24.
