Liberia: House Invites Justice, Agriculture Ministers

The House of Representatives Committees on Judiciary, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Investment and Concessions have invited the Ministers Agriculture and Justice, President of the Firestone Agriculture and Workers' Union and The Association of Environmental Lawyers Association of Liberia (Green Advocates).

These officials will appear and testify on why the House of Representatives should or should not concur with the Liberian Senate in rectifying the amendments in the re-negotiated Concessionaire Agreement between the Government of Liberia and the Firestone Plantation Company of Liberia.

This element of democratic legislative exercise, which takes place on Monday , March 24, 2008 in the Joint Chamber at 11 O'clock AM, is intended to assist the Lawmakers solicit sufficient information and test the impact of the new agreement on the Public.

Other Institutions invited to advocate, testify or state concerns related to the GOL and Firestone re-negotiated agreement are ; The Rubber Planters Association of Liberia, The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia and Concerned Eminent Citizens of Margibi County.

Meanwhile, following the resumption of Legislative duties after the Easter/Census break, Investigations into allegation of bribery at the House of Representatives will continue on Wednesday March 26, 2008.

A House release under the signature of the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Isaac Redd says the Judiciary Committee, in spite of its engagement with several proposed legislations, remains seized and committed to ensuring best practices are employ to end the probe transparently and harmoniously.
