The Northwest Women's Empowerment Forum, NOWWEF, will be launched in Bamenda on Saturday, March 29.

Created on August 12, 2005, the apolitical association aims at empowering women of the Northwest Province in all spheres of life in order to foster growth and development in the province in a bid to alleviate poverty and improve living conditions.

Northwest elite, Ama Tutu Muna, who is now the Minister of Culture, among other founding members, initiated the creation of the association. The outfit seeks to enhance, promote and project the image of the province politically, economically, socially and otherwise. Members of the association would empower and support health, paying greater attention to malaria, tuberculosis, HIV-AIDS etc.

They will also seek to promote the education of the girl child, adult literacy programs and capacity building. Among other objectives, NOWWEF will design and implement community development projects in all the seven divisions of the province.

Besides, the association will identify opportunities and channels from grassroots' women to access international markets. They will also empower the Northwest women with proactive leadership skills and decision-making.

For one thing, the outfit would shoulder enormous responsibilities as far as sourcing for funds through partnership with government, funding agencies and other stakeholders is concerned. It will network with all women's organisations and associations at local, national and international levels.

NOWWEF members will organise educative seminars and educational workshops to empower women and organise media activities that will project and promote the Northwest women. The pioneer executive bureau of the outfit will be elected during Saturday's launching fiesta.
