Bentleys were on show at Phakalane Golf Estates over the weekend and only big boys got to test-drive it.

Bentley Brand Manager, Rens Rademeyer said buying a Bentley is purely emotional. "There is nothing practical about buying super cars," he said. "You buy it when you have worked hard and want to spoil yourself."

The cars on show were the production line Continental GT with a W12 (a more compact six cylinder) motor and the Arnage. Weighing 2.5 tons, the Continental GT produces 411kW of peak power, which can catapult it from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Stopping distance from 100km/h is also a marvel because it happens in 32 metres. The top speed is 318 km/h.

"It is a modern super car and it is incredibly powerful. It is the only super car with a boot and four seats. It has the practicality of a Mercedes Benz and the performance of a Ferrari. Bentley is class. It is a mature car," Rademeyer said.

The all-wheel drive Continental GT which changed the face of the luxury coupe market and attracted a wider audience to the Bentley marque also represented the first step in Bentley's renaissance, positioning the company at the pinnacle of both technology and consumer aspiration. Since its launch, demand for a sportier version of the Continental GT was met by the successful introduction of the 2005 GT Mulliner Driving Specification and the limited edition GT Diamond Series in 2006, to celebrate 60 years of Bentley at Crewe, according to Bentley South Africa.

Also on show was the stately Arnage. Louis Nchindo has one.

"The Arnage is 100% hand built with a V8 6.75 litre motor. You get to choose what you want to be fitted on it," said the brand manager.
