Water shortages in Sefhare and Chadibe villages are sometimes due to power failures and breakages of pipes because of vandalism.
Minister of Local Government, Ms Margaret Nasha informed Parliament that the villages are supplied with water from Sefhare wellfield with three electrified boreholes whose yields is not enough to meet their demand.
As a result, there are times when they experience water shortage due to either power cuts or breakages of pipes due to vandalism. Tswapong South MP Oreeditse Molebatsi had wanted to know the measures in place to address the continued water shortage in Sefhare (Mafela ward), Chadibe and Machaneng. Ms Nasha said vandalism of public property by the community is something that must be addressed collectively and urged MP Molebatsi to assist by showing his people the folly of engaging in such acts. Answering another question from the MP for Gaborone South Mr Akanyang Magama, Ms Nasha said there is critical shortage of accommodation for primary school teachers in the whole country, including Gaborone. She said the problem is being addressed through the backlog eradication programme, noting that for Gaborone alone, 36 units at Block 2 and 8 are due for completion at the end of April this year. In addition, 64 teachers' houses will be constructed under the backlog eradication programme during the financial year 2008/09.
Mr Magama had asked the minister whether she is aware of the critical shortage of accommodation for primary school teachers in Gaborone and if the minister is aware what action does she intend to take and when. BOPA
