Gumare — One police officer died and two others seriously injured when their vehicle was involved in a road accident near Nokaneng in the North West District on Sunday.

The Police Officer Commanding, in Maun, S/Supt Phillip Makoba, confirmed in an interview that the police officers were from Maun to Gumare after a meeting.

He said the accident occurred between Nokaneng and Gumare when the driver of a Nissan Hardbody, carrying five police officers, tried to avoid an elephant that had blocked the road.

The vehicle swung out of control and overturned, killing the deceased on the spot and leaving two other officers badly injured. The driver and another officer have since been rushed to Nyangagwe Hospital in Francistown . BOPA
