Francistown — Double Action Women's Football Club is happy to have set a goal record that is likely to stand for years to come. The club had set themselves a hundred-goal target in the league for the season which the broke as they put nine goals past a hapless bottom of the log LB Roosters of Lobatse.
The club, which has effectively won their third successive league title, played 17 games, won all but one, scored a massive 111 goals, conceded only 12 and intend to score more goals when they play their last game of the season against Manana of Kanye next weekend.
Speaking to Voice Sport on Wednesday, coach Agreement Podi and striker Neo Masimola said they are now looking forward to next season and intend to break the goal record they themselves have set.
Masimola, who is joint leading scorer with team mate Thuto Ferah Ramafifi after hitting the net six times against Rooster to take her tally to 33, told Voice Sport: "We are happy at what we have achieved as a team this season. The coach had set us a 100-goal target and surpassing it makes our achievement more special. I was happy with my six goals. Bonang Otlhagile also scored six to add to our celebrations. I am looking forward to next season and breaking the record we have set."
Masimola, who was the league's top markswoman with 22 strikes last season, plans a repeat. "I want to be top scorer again and I think we will score a lot of goals in our last game. From our performance in the last game I think we can score up to twenty goals."
For his part, elated coach Podi told Voice Sport: "I am proud of myself and the players. We had a plan for the season and the girls worked hard to make the plan real. The goal record is a good tribute to our dedication and hard work. The girls have beaten my expectations and added to my happiness. Now the girls have to win the last game of the season because that's when we will get the league trophy and victory will make the day very special."
Quizzed on his plans for next season, Podi responded: "I want us to break the records we have set. I hope our performance will help the women's league get a sponsor. Having a sponsor will encourage the girls to play even better, knowing there will be more than a trophy at the end of the season."
Podi was talking to several people to help with money to throw a party for the girls to celebrate their achievement.
"The girls deserve to be spoiled and I hope somebody will give us some money to throw a party for them and all who have supported us."
