The disabled association in Makeni may split over who should get the All Peoples Congress (APC) symbol to contest the forthcoming local council elections scheduled for June this year.

Earlier this month, a group of disabled people led by district council chairman of the Disability Awareness action Group (DAG) Marthew Thorley presented Ibrahim T Sesay (Teddy Pee) as its candidate to represent them in the local council elections.

On the issue of his legitimacy with the part, Sesay said his membership with the party was as old as his disability.

Few weeks later, another group of disabled presented Emmanuel Foday Mark Nabie (Ndagbai) as the only disabled candidate who will truly represent the interest of the disabled in the local council.

However, another group has recently presented its female aspirant Mariatu Kargbo whom it said will create a difference in both the party and within the disabled.

Kargbo called on the party to consider her as a woman with plans to bridge the gender gap.

Meanwhile, Nabie has dismissed Teddy Pee's proposals claiming that he is not a true member of the APC but the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and that he who was actively involved in the last Presidential and Parliamentary elections campaign.

He said Sesay only registered with the party in February.

Teddy Pee said the issue of his disability is no secret as he can be physically seen limping on his one leg. He added that he is the only disabled in Makeni recognized in Freetown as a potential candidate for them in the local council elections.

APC regional secretary general Abu B Bangura said the party is determined to give symbol to only one disabled that will represent the rest. He asked that the disabled association go back and settle the difference in order that they would not lose the opportunity.
