Dzekwa (Jakiri)
Jakiri sub division or better still the population of Dzekwa, threatened by the recent fuel hike strike have stated preparedness to rise against future attempts to instil disorder, violence and destruction in the community.
The decision was a result of an emergency meeting on 9 March ,2008 during which local CPDM, CDU, UDP and elite condemned the use of violence as a way of solving problems. In effect, the strike action did not spare Jakiri and speakers during the crises meeting cheered the population for exercising maturity without any destruction of property during the disorder.
H.E Nsahlai Christopher who travelled to Jakiri with a message of appeasement hailed the population for making their voices heard without violence and told them that President Biya is a caring leader while the CDU and UDP leaders, Ansovinus Kwatica and Blasius Ghaniwirngo stood by dialogue as the best way forward in conflict resolutions. They preached against violence and looting exercised elsewhere during the strike action. CPDM section President, Tatah Francis said that Jakiri is the new Jerusalem after departing from the ugly association with "Baghdad" and that is why vandalism was absent in the area during the strike Meanwhile, a message from His Majesty the Fon of Nso cheered youths who refused to be manipulated to destroy.
Against this back drop, the CDU and UDP leaderships in Jakiri appreciated the fact that the meeting's convenors associated them to speak out against violence. The chapter closed with a motion expressing gratitude to President Paul Biya for the entire package or recent measures to ameliorate the living conditions of civil servants, military personnel and Cameroonians at large. They welcomed the initiative to revise the nation's Constitution as a rare opportunity to resolve problems inherent in the present law of the land. The motion committed the population towards peace, dialogue and prosperity in Cameroon and prayed President Biya to continue keeping a level head in the face of difficult moments in the history of the nation. Curtains dropped with HE Nsahlai Christopher advising the population to cultivate a culture of peace, hard work and love for the country as the gateway to success, development and blessings from the nation's leaders and God.
