Monrovia — The killing of children in recent times appears to be on the rise as another child identified as Godgift was last Wednesday morning found dead. The body of little "Godgift" was found hanging in a tree in Gobakcho Market Community in Paynesville near Monrovia.

The alleged murder of little Godgift brings to four the number of children reportedly killed in and around Monrovia in less than four months.

Children who are said to have died under mysterious circumstances include Angel Togba, Tedeecee Doe and little Alvin Davies.

In the wake of the death of little Godgift, Montserrado District #1 Representative Alomiza Ennos-Barr is calling on the government to speedily investigate circumstances surrounding the death of the child.

Rep. Barr said it was unbelievable for people to think that little Godgift hung himself adding, "under no circumstance this child would choose to hang himself."

She told reporters that it was unacceptable for children who are Liberia's future leaders to continuously be murdered by wicked and heartless individuals.

Rep. Barr wondered why should innocent children be killed at the time when people should be prioritizing their wellbeing so that they can be fully prepared to take up future responsibility.

According to her, the continuous murder of children would suggest that much needs to be done to protect them, adding "people would begin to say that Liberia is not safe."

She urged the government not to play any delay tactics to bring to justice those connected to the death of little Godgift.

At the same time, Representative Barr has called on the government to turn over the body of Alvin Davies to his parents for burial since it cannot conduct an autopsy.

In another development, the lawmaker is calling on Liberians to remain calm as government tries to resolve the situation faced by their compatriots in Ghana.

She said Liberians and Ghanaians have had strong relationship over the years, and as such, what was obtaining in Ghana should in no way affect their relationship.

"When we were killing ourselves here, Ghanaians were one of the first group of people to come and died for us in order for us to have peace; therefore, we should not use the situation in Ghana to harass or intimidate Ghanaians in Liberia," Rep. Barr sounded.
