High school coaches in the country have been challenged to turn the numerous talents at their disposal into stars.
On Monday, March 24, 2008 in Monrovia, Chief Festus Adeboye Onigbinde of Nigeria gave the challenge during the opening ceremony of the first international course ever to be organized by the Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) and sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
He told the participating coaches to put aside the old ideas and do things anew during the period of the course.
"I have been in this profession for a long time. I have just turned 70 two weeks ago. I want you to learn from me and I will learn from you too," Professor Onigbinde said.
He informed the high school coaches that upon graduation, they would become lecturers tomorrow. Therefore, he wants them to make them think but not to pump things in their ears.
For the purpose of improving local football, the Nigerian Lecturer of FIFA stated that the participants would discover some new things that their colleagues did not learn during the last FIFA coaching course held two months ago in Liberia.
On behalf of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), the Acting Secretary-General, Jenkins Pelenah called on the coaches to give their fullest support and termed the course as a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity.
Mr. Pelenah called on the high school coaches to let the facilitator train them to become trainers of trainers.
"We want to see you telling Joseph Willie (President of ISSA) to organize a course for technical staff of schools nationwide," says Mr. Pelenah.
According to him, the best way to make use of the knowledge to be learnt is by passing it on to others and that the course is for Liberia not ISSA.
Philibert S. Browne, the President of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), made it clear that the challenge was for the coaches to learn and impact the knowledge in their high school teams.
He urged them to go out there and do the best out of the knowledge they would acquire. "Let's make use of what you are going to learn and cooperate with ISSA and LFA. No knowledge is a waste," he declared.
Following the opening ceremony at the headquarters of the LNOC on Benson Street, the participants and the course director proceeded to the Board Room of the LFA at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) to begin the actual training.
The course would run from March 24-30, 2008 with 25 coaches from ISSA and 5 from 3rd division teams of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) of which ISSA is an affiliate. Twenty-three of the coaches are from Montserrado County and two are from Margibi County and Grand Bassa County.
From Brewerville, schools invited are Lott Carey Mission, Ricks Institute and Sarah Barclay School, while ISSA named schools from Bushrod Island as St. Mary's Catholic School, New Era, Barclay Nyenfueh, Mark J. Richards and Joana Antoe.
As for Gardnersville, schools selected are St. Philips Ecumenical School, St. Michael Catholic School and Grace AG School, whereas Calvary Temple AG School and H.A. Gesner were selected from Somalia Drive.
ISSA named Nathan E. Gibson, JC Goodridge and Dominion Christian School as the Paynesville schools. Sinkor has Susan Berry, Haywood Mission, Independent Bethlehem and Sinkor AG, whereas Central Monrovia will have Worldwide Mission, George & Logan and Gray D. Allison.

As stated by ISSA, the course is a way of helping to make football grow in the country, thus asking schools to take advantage of the opportunity.
