Angolan Parliament speaker, Roberto de Almeida receives North Korean counterpart, Kim Yong Nam

The speaker of the National Assembly, Roberto de Almeida Tuesday here met with the President of the Supreme Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Yong Nam, in light of the latter's visit to Angola.

Kim Yong Nam, in the country since Sunday, did not make declarations to the press at the end of the meeting, and shall do so at a press conference to be granted at the end of his official four-day visit.

On Monday, the Korean official attended the opening of official talks between governmental delegations of his country and of Angola, respectively led by him and by the Angolan prime minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

The re-launch of friendship and cooperation ties, which started decades ago, revitalising the Angola/North Korea joint bilateral commission, topped the meeting's agenda.

Regarding this aspect, Kim Yong Nam announced the holding of the fourth session of the Angola-North Korea joint commission, in Pyongyang, in a date to be decided, whose objective shall be to identify susceptible sectors for the re-launch a mutually advantageous cooperation, with highlight to the health sector.

According to the politician, authorities of his country are proud to have Angola as a friend, in the African continent, judging by the successes being achieved in the economy field, after having achieved peace.

He stressed that North Korean authorities totally support the measures adopted by the Angolan government, underlining free education until the 8th grade, among other measures in favour of the wellbeing of the population.

The talks, officially opened by the Angolan prime minister, are expected to end this Tuesday with the signing of a cooperation protocol between Foreign Affairs Ministries of Angola and of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea.

The head of the Korean delegation, Kim Yong Nam was Monday received in an audience by the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

Meetings with the speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament), Roberto de Almeida, with the ministers of Health, Ruben Sicato, of Foreign Affairs, João Miranda, and of Trade, Joaquim Muafumba, are also part of his visit agenda.
