Bamenda, birth place of the CPDM, was part of the 23rd anniversary of the party yesterday March 24. Hon Simon Achidi Achu, CPDM Central Committee delegation leader was in the chair at the Bamenda congress hall when militants traced the history of the party back to March 24,1985.
It was time to celebrate maturity with Hon Achidi Achu acknowledging that the party has come a long way with Party chairman, Paul Biya who stands for peace, unity, democracy and the economic development of the nation. He encouraged militants to standby New Deal ideals and the move to revise Cameroon's constitution to make it relevant and pertinent to the exigencies of today. Party Chairman, Paul Biya was cheered as a tolerant leader while prayers wished God to grant him strength and wisdom to take Cameroon forward towards progress and prosperity.
Governor Abakar Ahamat was around while Mezam I CPDM Section President, Minister Paul Atanga Nji impressed with innovations that keep the party alive in the section. On the spot he offered fcfa two million for the rehabilitation of the Bamenda Commercial Avenue grandstand destroyed during the February, 2008 strike action and hailed party police for vigilance during the ugly event. Militants through the voices of WCPDM Section President, Mbah Miriam and Prof Fru Angwafo remembered victims of the recent social unrest, condemned violence as solution to problems and saluted recent measures by President Biya to improve living standards of citizens.
Elsewhere in Dzekwa, Bui Division, the newest CPDM Section in the North West, militants were conspicuous in Jakiri with song and dance for 23 years of the party which they said have kept Cameroon intact. CPDM Central Committee delegation leader to Dzekwa section, Nsahlai Christopher, said there was enough to commemorate with Jakiri Sub division delivered from the opposition to the ruling CPDM during the July 22,2007 twin elections. Militants were heralded for producing the lone Member of Parliament and a CPDM council in the Jakiri Special constituency after years of crying in the rain.
Nsahlai Christopher recalled the recent social unrest that rocked the nation and saluted the youths of Jakiri Sub division for refusing to destroy. The maturity of Jakiri people was recognised for making their grievances heard during the February,2008 strike without violence. Nsahlai said the 23rd anniversary of the CPDM offer an opportunity for militants to be vigilant, more alert and prevent future acts that could jeopardise the nation's peace, democracy and development. In all, Dzekwa section militants were told to continue rising to expectation and consolidate peace, promote national integration, work to improve economic growth and modernise the nation's institutions by endorsing the request to modify Cameroon's constitution.
