The 22nd edition of the much celebrated Tamaghza mountain oasis festival , in the governorate of Tozeur, was launched on Saturday by a parade, organized at the town's entrance. The opening of the festival gathered together popular and Sufi music, as well as horse riding shows. This year's edition was placed under the theme "the date palm from planting to date harvesting".

The parade was also the occasion to represent and re-enact scenes from the village's daily life and agricultural seasons.

Tamaghza which is one of Tunisia 's most original tourist resorts, is also very well known for its water falls and desert oases in general. Up to March 24, the visitor will have an opportunity to watch and admire the region's traditional handicrafts and cuisine.

The festival is also one of the major cultural meetings of the fascinating 'Jerid' area known for its flora and fauna but also for its rich traditional culture.
