Central Africa: Regional States Meet in Burundi to Discuss Security

Robert Mukombozi

26 March 2008

Bujumbura — REPRESENTATIVES of four countries in the region are meeting in the Burundian capital, Bujumbura, under the Tripartite Plus Joint Commission to discuss strategies of ending conflicts in the Great Lakes region.

Ministers from Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are meeting to develop consensus on how effectively they can end threats to regional peace and security.

At the core of the discussions is the evaluation of the Tripartite Plus progress, the forging of political and diplomatic strategies aimed at ending threats to regional security from negative forces operating in the volatile eastern DR Congo.

They will also receive a report from their chiefs of defence forces.
