The Somali police commander in the central region of Hiran resigned from the post on Tuesday, saying that he cannot work with Governor Yusuf Daboged.

Col. Abdi Adan Addow held a press conference in the Hiran provincial capital Beletwein on Tuesday, detailing his grievances against Governor Daboged.

He stated that his decision to resign from the post came after "interference" in police affairs by the governor of Hiran region.

Governor Daboged has ordered Col. Addow to transform the Beletwein central police station into a prison, an order Col. Addow called "illegal" and "impossible."

He accused Daboged of violating the law and desiring to keep anyone who opposes him in jail.

Col. Addow was very critical of Daboged's "mismanagement of funds" and accused the governor of "acting like a warlord."

Government sources in Beletwein tell Garowe Online that the dispute between Governor Daboged and Col. Addow surfaced after the police commander released 20 prisoners who were jailed at the central police station for the past three weeks.

The prisoners were not charged with any crime and were never brought to court, according to the sources.

This is not the first time Governor Daboged has been accused by members of his own administration. Recently, the mayors of Beletwein and Bulo Burte launched scathing accusations against Daboged relating to the misappropriation of government funds.

Somalia's transitional government is busy combating guerrillas in the capital Mogadishu and has remained unable to extend its authority to the regions.
