FCT Minister, Dr Umar Modibbo yesterday in Abuja offered automatic employment to a person living with HIV/AIDS.

The man, who did not want his name to be mentioned, pleaded with the minister for a job during the minister's inspection of facilities at the Cyprian Ekwensi Arts and Culture Centre.

Modibbo said that yesterday's employment had increased the total number of PLWHAs on the pay roll of FCTA to five and pledged to empower more of them.

Modibbo had earlier addressed a group of PLWHAs who were at the centre to receive the free monthly medical treatment, food supplement and stipends provided by the FCT Action Committee on AIDS (FACA).

He pledged his administration's commitment to alleviate the sufferings of those living with HIV and AIDS and directed FACA to increase the frequency of reaching out to them to twice a month.

Modibbo said the FCT recorded a decrease in the rate of HIV infection from 10 per cent in 2003 to 6 per cent in 2005.

The Minister stressed the need for an urgent renovation of the Cyprain Ekwensi centre for the dedication ceremony scheduled to hold on April 17.

He therefore, directed the FCTA Secretary of Social Development Service, Mr Olusegun Awolowo, to award contracts for the renovation of the centre.
