The CPP flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, last Wednesday took his campaign message to another level when he told party faithfuls in Kumasi that had it not been the unnecessary coup in 1966, which toppled the first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the government of Convention People's Party(CPP) would still be ruling the country.

Referring to the February 24, 1966 coup, allegedly masterminded by the UP party, which has now metamorphosed into NPP, the CPP flagbearer said because the opposition party at that time knew they would not be able to win power through the ballot box if elections were to be conducted, they resorted to the use of military attack to remove the CPP government from power.

Addressing a mini rally at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom said opponents of Dr. Nkrumah were afraid of competition and realized that the programmes and development oriented policies which were being implemented by the CPP at that time were too powerful, for any party to remove the CPP through the ballot box, so they realized the only way they could gain power was for them to topple the government.

"Our party was never removed through the ballot box, if it had been elections, CPP would have ruled forever", he pointed out. Dr. Nduom noted that even though the CPP had gone through turbulent times after that ill-fated coup, he was assuring Ghanaians that the CPP of today is not the same as that of 2000 and 2004. "We have given birth to a new CPP and I am promising everybody that I am the next to occupy the Presidential seat after President Kufuor," he declared

He noted that the party had revolutionalised from what people perceived to be a party for the aged and that it had now become very attractive to the youth, who through history, had come to realize that the only party which had pragmatic and youth-centered policies was the CPP, under which the youth benefited from the developmental policies.

Dr. Nduom added that successive governments had failed to address the issue of the total collapse of all state-owned enterprises, which hitherto were a major source of employment for the youth. The CPP flagbearer noted that the numerous state enterprises which were established by the late President Nkrumah, as a form of providing job opportunities for our youth had all crumpled under the watchful eyes of succeeding governments, resulting in mass unemployment which had given rise to criminal activities in the country.

"CPP is the party which created the highest number of jobs since the country attained independence and like our name suggests, we are "Adwuma Wura" and we have come to continue our good works," he boasted.

Dr. Nduom pledged to revive those defunct state enterprises like the Kumasi Jute Factory, the shoe Factory at Atonsu, Pwalungu Tomato Factory and others in less than hundred days on assumption of office.

On his part, the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Ivor Greentreet, stated that the country needs a leader who is kind, committed, selfless and hardworking to turn the destiny of the party around, adding that such a person is no other than Dr.Paa Kwesi Nduom. According to him, Dr. Nduom is the only candidate with the blend of youth and elderly experience and is capable of making the right decision at the most appropriate time.

The National chairman of the party, Mr.Ladi Nylander urged Ghanaians to ignore NDC and NPP since according to him, they have all done what they could do for the country.
