The population massively turned out to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the CPDM party on Monday, March 24.
From Bazou to Bangangté and Tonga all in the Nde Division in the West Province, the message on every lip as the population celebrated the 23rd anniversary of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM, was yes to constitutional revision, yes to social peace and progress and no to vandalism and violence. On Monday, March 24, faithful militants of the CPDM party all gathered at the party house of the different areas not only to consolidate national unity, economic growth, the peace and stability that reign in Cameroon but also to outline reasons why the constitution should be changed.
At the helm of the meeting that took place at the Bangangté party house, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Clobert Tchatat, said CPDM militants in the Nde Division have every reason to celebrate for the meeting comes not only after a period of social unrest in the country but also a time when the Head of State has shown the interest he has for the population in improving their standard of living by increasing salaries of civil servants, removing taxes on certain basic commodities. As such the population of the Nde Division will witness changes from the Head of State's move to boost the living conditions of Cameroonians. While telling the population that it is time to consolidate the progress that has already taken place in the region, Clobert Tchatat, said a yes to the revision of the constitution will mean more projects and progress for the Nde Division.
The President of the Central Committee delegation, Joesph Desire Nguenang, in an in-depth speech at Bazou told the population that as they celebrate the party's 23rd anniversary, focus should be placed on "social peace", for peace has no price and that nothing justifies violence. As an economist, Joesph Desire Nguenang told the population that the increase in salaries and the cut-off of taxes of certain commodities do not mean that landlords should increase house rents or traders should increase prices of goods in the market. According to him, this will lead to inflation. Instead, he told the population to increase production of goods in a bid to benefit from the fact that buyers have enough money to pay given that they have a higher purchasing power at the moment. To the youths Joesph Desire Nguenang said plans are underway to sponsor them as well as create micro-projects to help them become self-employed. The anniversary was an occasion for the population to highlight some of their problems such as lack of teachers, medical doctors as well as roads in certain areas in the region.
