Head of the Family Support Unit (FSU) at the Kenema police station is alleged to have taken a bribe of US $ 200 for the release of an unlawful carnal knowledge suspect under investigation.

Esther Kamara was reported to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Elizabeth Turay by Mohamed Mbukie a diamond dealer that she has taken the said amount for the release of Christian Bamuna Amara a teacher of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School (AMSS) and presenter of a radio programme at Radio Nongowa.

The suspect Amara was alleged to have tampered with a 13 year-old daughter of the principal of AMSS Sandy Moijueh.

Esther said she was called upon by AIG Turay to answer to questions with regards the scandal.

"I am innocent of the allegation. We are investigating Amara for having an affair with a 13 year-old. We are going to charge the matter to court," she said adding that the allegation was grave and should not be compromised.

She claimed to have been threatened by Mbukie, a popular diamond dealer for failing to grant bail to the accused person.

Amara said they have informed AIG Turay about the matter and that plans are on going to transfer the matter to Freetown.

"We have noticed that Sandy Moijueh is using his influence in this matter," he said and that he has called on his people to release him (Amara) on bail.

AIG Turay said she has been ordered by the CDIID to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, the issue of sexual assaults by teachers against pupils is on the increase in the region, thus female students from various schools are planning to demonstrate against the menace.

Mariama Sesay a student of Ahmadiyya Muslim secondary school Kenema said sexual assault matters in the district concern all female students.

She said the alleged sexual assault perpetrated against the girl by a teacher of the same school was unacceptable and that they as female student have demanded that justice must prevail.

Another student Isatu Mustapha confirmed that sexual harassment in secondary schools in Kenema was on the increase.

"We are frustrated by such an unprofessional behavior of some teachers," she complained, and added, "We will stage a peaceful demonstration if the matter is not pursued to court level." "We have noticed that the police are finding ways to frustrate the matter," said Memunatu Kamara.

Effort to reach Mbukie proved futile as his number  was off.
