The Federal government yesterday urged the U-23 National team to help erase the woeful performances of the Super Eagles in Ghana by beating the South Africans and qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games.
The message was delivered by Chairman National Sports Commission, Alhaji Abdulrahman Hassan Gimba who promised each player $4,000 should they achieve victory today in the crucial qualifier, which Nigeria must win to pick the ticket to Beijing.
Gimba, who watched the Dream Team in training, urged the players to put behind them the recent dismal outing of the Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana and put in their best to redeem the image of the country.

"The memory of the Super Eagles' woeful performance in the African Cup of Nations in Ghana is still fresh on the minds of many soccer fans. You should try to redeem the image of this country by beating South Africa tomorrow (today)," Gimba told the players.
Team handler Samson Siasia, however promised the Chairman that: "We will surely win to put smile not only your face but that of all Nigerians wherever they are. The monetary promise apart, we will make you and the whole of Nigeria smile after the match."
However, an excited Olubayo Adefemi said: "We have never had it so good in the previous past. This time with such an amount at stake, we will come all out to make sure we humble the South Africans."
