Nigeria: Lasu Museum Collaborates With NMM

Lagos — Lagos State University Museum, situated in Agege on the outskirts of Lagos, has entered into a mutually beneficial collaboration with the National Museum and Monuments (NMM) in a bid to effectively carry out its mandate.

The collaboration is also to assist in research to build up required literature needed to understand the history ,art and the natural environment of Lagos state.

LASU Museum Director, Dr. Bodun Shodeinde , who disclosed this in a chat with THISDAY, said the collaboration was the the outcome of an official visit he made to the Onikan,Lagos headquarters of the NMM a month ago.

According to Dr. Shodeinde,LASU Museum is also set to benefit from the expertise of the ethnographers and archaeologists from the National Museum who will be released whenever requested to assist the LASU Museum.

He said the collaboration will start in the next one month,adding that the National Museum has also agreed to enter into inter-museum loan with LASU Museum.

Dr. Shodeinde explained that with the arrangement, the National Museum will mount a section of its museum at the LASU Museum and make its Exhibit Specialists available to assist the State University Museum .

It will be recalled that the LASU Museum boss paid an official visit to the NMM about a month ago during which he requested for assistance in developing the State's University Museum.

He was received on arrival by the Curator of the National Museum,Mrs Ibironke Ashaye,on behalf of the Director General.

Meanwhile, authorities of LASU Museum have restated their commitment to the plan to adopt the ostriches being kept at the premises of Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority in Oko Oba , Agege.

They are therefore pleading with the State Commissioner for Agriculture,Chief Enoch Ajibosho to act on the proposal already presented to him on the plan.
