A leading member of the of the Tema East branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus Glover has stated that the Tema East constituency needs a vivacious Member of Parliament (MP) to champion the cause of residents in the constituency.

According to him, there are a number of problems brewing in the constituency as a result of the absence of a vibrant legislator and noted that when voted as MP for the area, he would ensure that all such issues are addressed.

Titus Glover, as he is popularly known was speaking to a section of the Tema media soon after he had filed his nomination to contest the Tema East NPP parliamentary primary, in Tema, last Monday. He was the first candidate to have returned his nomination form and paid the stipulated GH¢1,000 as registration fee.

The Tema East constituency secretary of the party, Charles Ogyeabour Boateng told the media that so far only two persons, Ashong Narh, former Municipal Chief Executive of the Tema Municipal Assembly and Titus Glover had picked their nomination forms, which is expected to close by the end of the month.

The candidate, who is also a former Assembly member for the Ashiboi electoral area, in the Tema Metropolitan area, pointed out that he was the only candidate among the aspirants who possessed all the qualities residents in Tema are looking for in their next MP.

"Now we are calling for young, vibrant, intelligent and smart legislators; the constituents want someone who is an all rounder, whose voice they can hear in parliament and who can champion their cause in the House. And that is what makes me unique among my competitors. Besides, I am popular and marketable, most especially because I can easily fit into any situation, be it tough or robust.

"There is no worker in Tema who doesn't know me because I have been a youth leader and a trade unionist who has led workers in the Tema region as well as fought for the redemption of Tema workers from their problems".

"Aside that I was in the then Tema Municipal Assembly when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party was in power and they know my contribution on the floor and I believe that with this track record, I stand tall among my competitors", he explained.

Explaining further, Titus Glover said when given the nod as the MP for the area, his topmost priority would be to develop the human resource base of the constituency by supporting needy but brilliant children in the constituency to acquire the needed education and skills.

The former Assembly member further noted that when given the nod, he would provide a qualitative and selfless leadership by involving his constituents in his decision making process.

He would employ what he referred to as 'Surgery', where any time parliament is on recess, he would go down to his constituents, even to those at the grass root level and brief them on what happened in parliament during the period as well as consult with his constituents to enable him know their problems which he believed would help enhance his work as an MP.

According to him, this is not the first time he is attempting to practice something of this nature, because when he was a trade unionist and later an Assembly member, he was doing something similar to that. Another issue that is of great concern to the aspiring MP is the present state of the landing lay for fishermen at the Tema Fishing Harbour.

He explained that everything is in a state of deterioration saying, "The fishermen need a concrete landing wharf to replace the wooden deteriorated one they are using now".
